A driver was airlifted to hospital with ‘serious chest injuries’ after a collision in Clayton-le-Moors.

Emergency services were called to the Hare and Hounds junction on Whalley Road after a collision between a black Vauxhall Astra and a Ford Transit van.

Police said the 42-year-old Astra driver suffered serious chest injuries and was airlifted to Royal Preston Hospital.

The incident happened at around 12.10pm on Sunday, May 15 and the road was closed until 2.15pm for accident investigation works to be carried out.

Firefighters also helped clear a large amount of oil off the road.

A Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “There were no persons trapped, however a casualty at the scene was receiving first aid from paramedics at the scene when crews arrived.

“Firefighters assisted paramedics with the casualty, who was put on a long board and transferred to an air ambulance. The scene was left in the care of the Police and Highways Agency as there was some fuel spillage involved in the incident.”

No arrests have been made.
