A man charged with attempted murder after a mother suffered stab wounds in Oswaldtwistle has appeared in court.

Gary Oldham, 41, of St Paul’s Court, Oswaldtwistle was also charged with possessing an offensive weapon.

He appeared before Blackburn Magistrates Court this morning and was remanded in custody to appear at Preston Crown Court on November 2.

Armed police were called after the 26-year-old woman, named by police as Amy Newton, received stab wounds to her stomach and shoulder on Havelock Street at around 4pm on Tuesday, September 29.

She was taken to hospital for treatment where her condition is described as ‘stable’.
