A multi faith service will be held in the town centre in honour of tragic soldier Lee Rigby

It will include a candlelit vigil and will take place at the Pals Memorial on Church Street from 7pm on Thursday, July 8.

Deputy council leader Clare Pritchard said: “We realised a lot of people in Hyndburn were affected by the senseless killing of Lee Rigby and we wanted to do something as a council.”

A candlelit vigil will also be held in Oswaldtwistle on the same evening from 8pm at the Cenotaph with a collection for Help for Heroes and a wreath laying by the Royal British Legion.

It will be led by Rev John Holland and followed by a gathering at the social club on Rhyddings Street.

Ward councillor Peter Britcliffe said: “If anyone else wants to place tributes then they will be able to do so.

“Quite a number of people in Oswaldtwistle have asked us to organise something and we felt this was appropriate.

“It will give the town an opportunity to pay their respects and should be a poignant occasion.

Drummer Rigby, 25, was hacked to death near the Royal Artillery Barracks in Woolwich on May 22.

Hundreds of people are expected to line the streets of Bury on Friday, July 12 for his funeral.

A private military service will be held at the parish church at 11am.
