Accrington Crematorium is due to be refurbished at a cost of £17,000.

Hyndburn Council will spent cash from its annual budget on upgrading the chapel, repainting the crematorium, and installing new seating and carpets.

There will also be changes to a section of road outside the crematorium to allow better access to the cemetery.

Hyndburn Council’s cabinet member for education, leisure and arts, Ken Moss said: “We’re using the money for a renovation just to keep it up to standard.

“The inside of the chapel needs a lick of paint and new carpets.

“But we’re also doing some work to a section of road outside. We’re extending it so it connects within the grounds of the cemetery. It will open up a new part for burials and allow more movements around the crematorium.

“We are still cheaper than any of our neighbours for burials, we’re trying to keep it that way.”
