Members of the Accrington Grammar School Old Boys Association are offering financial help to Hyndburn senior school pupils who wish to improve their foreign language skills at home or abroad.

Geoff Lund, the association’s president, is a retired languages teacher and has proposed a scheme which falls into the group’s ethos of putting something back into helping young people in local schools.

Mr Lund said: “We are very conscious of the help along life’s journey that we received at Accrington Grammar School, and feel we ought to help the local boys and girls. This scheme fits into our ‘aims and objects’ by allowing us to associate ourselves with youngsters and their all-round education.”

Applicants should write or email Mr Lund before the end of May, setting out how they propose to spend the bursary, giving details of their study. They should also name a teacher at their school who can be contacted by the association to discuss the application. His address is 13 Fordside Ave, Clayton-le-Moors, BB5 5TH, or students can email responses to geoffandpauline13@hotmail.co.uk

Two years ago, the association gave a laptop computer to a local school.
