Accrington and Rossendale College bosses have quashed rumours that it may be about to close.

The college has issued a statement to the Observer after the misinformation was reported to have been circulating on social media.

But Sue Taylor, principal of the college, on Broad Oak Road in Accrington, strongly refuted the claims.

She said: “There is absolutely no truth in the rumour that Accrington and Rossendale College is closing.

“Our recruitment of students this year has been excellent and the college has actually exceeded its target number of students.

“Only last month we opened a brand new £5 million pound restaurant, warehousing and conference facility and at our open evening only two weeks ago, we welcomed almost a thousand people through our doors.”

She added: “Contrary to the rumours, we are looking forward to a positive future.”

In addition to the new £5m facility, the college also has the multi-million pound Hameldon Centre, housing the construction trades and building services departments, a brand new sports fitness centre, a sports science lab and a four court sports hall.
