Staff and students marked the next stage of Accrington and Rossendale College’s history by remembering its past.
To celebrate the new £5 million Heartwood Centre, the college created a time capsule containing representations of modern life and the establishment today to be opened in 50 years time.
The capsule includes up-to-date maps of the town and college campus, film testimonials from students about their experiences, copies of prospectuses from today and from yesteryear, a special message from the principal and sports memorabilia from Accrington Stanley.
Principal Sue Taylor said: “We are extremely proud of our 50-year history and also our present achievements and we would like our future generations of learners to be as well.
“We have lots of things to celebrate and in another 50 years, learners will be able to open the time capsule and see exactly how life at the college was in the 1960s through to the present day.”
The Heartwood Centre, which opens in September, includes state-of-the-art kitchen and restaurant facilities and will support the growing catering and hospitality and other departments.
