Accrington and Rossendale College celebrated the launch of its new state-of-the-art Sports Fitness Centre by hosting a special ticketed event for prospective students.
The new £1.3 million centre boasts a four-court sports hall for different activities, sports science labs, specialist equipment and a new fitness gym.
Schools bosses said the launch night, which featured professional basketball team Lancashire Spinners performing ‘trick shots’ with audience participation, gave prospective students and employers the opportunity to ‘see the facilities up close’, with many taking part in different sports challenges.
Becky Coleman, deputy head of sport and leisure, said: “It was great to see prospective students and employers enjoying the brand new facilities.”
Principal Sue Taylor joined current and prospective students to officially open the centre with a ribbon cutting ceremony and said it will provide ‘the best possible environment’ to learn.
The new facilities are also set to benefit the local community including trampolining and badminton clubs.
Accross said the centre also complements the nearby 3G football pitch.
