Two community gardeners threw caution to the wind by shedding their clothes to take on their horticultural duties.
Jim Coleman and Peter Whalley, who volunteer at Churchfield House in Great Harwood , caused a stir when they posed in nothing but their underwear for World Naked Gardening Day.
Fellow volunteer Sandra Robinson praised the ‘flower pot men’ for their bravery and sense of humour.
She said: “I became aware of World Naked Gardening Day through social media and when I got to Churchfield House Jim and Peter were already there.
“I said to them ‘right lads it’s naked gardening day so are you getting your kit off?’ and they were up for it straight away.
“They are to be applauded and thanked for their contribution, devotion and effort.
“They have a wonderful sense of humour and are always up for a laugh.
“They preserved their dignity by keeping their underwear on. They had to as it was a very public place and you could see them from the road.
“It was a good laugh. People were enjoying it as they went past and waving and pipping their horns.”
Sandra said Jim, of Church Street, and Peter, of Beech Street, have been working on transforming the gardens in the grounds of Churchfield House for 18 months.
Their work has included painting planters, railings and benches and power washing the stone pavings.
