Corrie legend Bill Roache has been out campaigning in Accrington with the Conservative Party candidate for Hyndburn, Kevin Horkin.

The soap star, and former Haslingden resident, has been a friend of Mr Horkin’s for some time. He was pictured outside the Commercial Hotel and the Accrington Stanley shop in the town centre.

Mr Horkin said: “I’ve known William Roache for the best part of 26 years. I used to work on Coronation Street as an agent - I used to book all the animals for the show. He has also been a patron of several charities I’ve been involved with.

“We started off in Accrington, then went to Great Harwood and Haslingden. It was a tremendous delight for so many fans and we had hundreds of photographs taken with them.

“Many people were taken aback by having a TV legend in their town - I definitely think it made people happy and enhanced their shopping experience.”

Other candidates standing in Hyndburn in the 2017 General Election are Janet Brown, UKIP; Graham Jones, Labour; and Les Jones, Liberal Democrats.
