Motorists are being warned to avoid the M65 after a long section was closed off due to flooding.
Police have closed the eastbound carriageway from Junction 10 at Burnley to Junction 14 at Colne.
The Padiham bypass has also been blocked because of flooding, which has made the area ‘impassable’.
Although forecasters say there is due to be no more rain until later in the day, they have issued a yellow wet weather warning for Lancashire, with heavy rain predicted from mid-afternoon today until late on Wednesday.
Hyndburn Police posted on Facebook: “For information M65 Eastbound between 10-14 is shut due to flooding as is the Padiham bypass at Padiham. Take extra time & drive safely.”
In another post they said: “Padiham bypass blocked at Slade Ln and around Sabden/Higham. Sabden in all directions from Padiham near impassable.”
Lancashire Road Police posted on Twitter: “We’ve closed the eastbound M65 from jn 10 due to flooding & incidents. We know it’s a pain, but YOUR SAFETY comes 1st.
“Not a decision taken lightly but it’s far too dangerous now to allow the carriageway to remain open.”
