Family and friends gathered to celebrate the 100th birthday of a former dressmaker from Clayton-le-Moors.

The red carpet was rolled out for Dorothy Camp’s birthday when a party for 24 friends and family was held at her daughter’s home.

Wellfield Care Home, on Whalley Road in Accrington, where Dorothy now lives, also organised a party for her with singer Maria Manchester entertaining guests.

Her daughter Hilary Fearn said both parties were ‘wonderful and truly enjoyable occasions’.

Mum-of-two Dorothy lived at Church Lane in Clayton-le-Moors until her marriage to Fred in 1940 and moved to Duke Street.

She lived there for 68 years before moving to Wellfield last year.

Hilary said Dorothy’s mother was a dressmaker and from a very early age was taught to sew by her mother.

She later became a dressmaker, still sewing in her nineties and always taking a keen interest in fashion.
