A former Oswaldtwistle councillor is to be made an Honorary Alderman of Hyndburn.
Conservative Brian Roberts retired from his St Oswalds ward seat before the May elections after 15 years of service to the borough, including deputy leader of the Conservative group.
Fellow St Oswald’s councillor and Mayor of Hyndburn Marlene Haworth said the award was well deserved.
She said: “I’ve worked with him for the last 12 years, I’m very happy for him and it’s well deserved.
“He’s done a lot of good work in the ward and he was a good councillor and deputy leader.”
Former leader of the Conservative group Peter Britcliffe said Coun Roberts was a wonderful deputy leader.
He said: “He was my deputy he was fiercely loyal but he was not afraid to be critical and he was very supportive.
“He was also chairman of the Community Safety Partnership and he was very dedicated to that task. He did a great job and I will always be grateful for the work he did.”
Coun Roberts will receive his title at the council meeting on Thursday, July 2.
