Brand new artist’s impressions of Accrington Bus Station have been revealed to the Observer.

The images show what the new £6.4 million bus station will look like on the site of the former Crawshaw Street car park.

They include night and day images and a glimpse of what the new walk-through from the station to the rest of the town centre.

This is being created by knocking through the former Lady Clitheroe shop on Union Street, allowing passengers and visitors to quickly access Broadway.

Work begun last month on the station, which is part of the £40m Pennine Reach Scheme to improve transport links between Hyndburn and Blackburn.

Most of the buildings, including Link House on King Street, have now been cleared.

The bus station relocation was approved last year by the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government following a two-day public inquiry last June.

Campaigners collected a 300-name petition against the scheme, claiming it would hit the town centre and parking.

The station is expected to be up and running by March 2016.
