Hundreds of Team GB stars at the Rio Olympics have been ‘kitted out’ with uniforms made by a Hyndburn firm.

Jessica Ennis-Hill, Kate French and Samantha Murray are among more than 360 athletes who will wear clothing for the closing parade supplied by Altham-based company Simon Jersey.

They are the first uniform supplier ever to have been selected to supply Team GB and will also provide suiting for formal events.

The opening ceremony for the Games is on Friday, although the Olympic football gets underway today.

All the athletes visited a full-scale ‘Savile Row-style’ tailors shop to get their custom-made outfits and marked the end of a two-year design process.

James Saunders, managing director, said: “It was fantastic for our team to meet all of the athletes heading to Rio and to kit them out in Simon Jersey.

“It’s always a pleasure to take designs from concept to reality and see customers wearing them, but to see the diverse range of body shapes in Team GB united by our clothing has been really special.

“We hope that our design for the closing ceremony will be a real talking point and can’t wait to see the athletes wearing it at the end of the games on August 21.”
