Plans have been unveiled for a new swimming facility in Clayton-le-Moors which will use video technology to help people improve their technique.

The iSwim Centre could open in the New Year and will feature a specialist ‘Endless pool’ providing detailed visual feedback on swimmers’ strokes.

In a change of use planning application sent to Hyndburn council, applicant Mark Smith said the unit will be equipped with an 8ft x 14ft Endless Pool, two changing spaces, a small reception area, a shower room, a small land training gym and a meeting/training space. Endless pools save space by allowing swimmers to swim against a steady, adjustable current.

If planning permission is granted, swimmers will have access to one-to-one coaching, which will include a DVD of their session.

The centre, which is to be based at Clayton Business Park, will cater for people of all ages and abilities, including small groups of pre-school children.

The project has the backing of Pioneer79, a local swimming club that has over 600 members, based at Accrington Academy.

Andy O’Brien, Principal of Accrington Academy, said: “The fitness and wellbeing of our students is at the heart of our school and during recent years we have opened up our own sports facilities and swimming pool to support the local community.

“In respect of the new development, we are always supportive of anything that makes a difference to the life choices of our students and indeed the wider community.”
