Soap star Michelle Keegan caused a bit of a stir as she was spotted filming in the Valley for an upcoming TV series.

The former Coronation Street actress attracted an audience of fans in Bacup town centre near South Street filming for six-part show Brassic.

Other locations around the town have also been filmed, including near the former police station, on Bank Street, and also near Broadclough Mill, on Burnley Road.

Keegan , 31, plays Erin in the show created by This is England actor Joe Gilgun and Shameless writer Danny Brocklehurst. Filming took place in Bacup on Monday, September 10 and Tuesday, September 11.

Michael Almond, from Bacup, spotted film crews in the town as he returned from work and said there were a lot of trucks behind Mario’s on Market Street.

He said: “I noticed them filming in the centre of Bacup on Monday night as I was coming back from work and (on Tuesday) they were filming just off South Street.

“There were quite a few people including myself watching and it was causing a bit of traffic problems as people kept stopping. Michelle Keegan was there surrounded by security guards and there was a Mercedes van ready to take her away when she was done.

“It’s not something that you really see in Bacup. I was there for about an hour and they kept filming the same scene over and over again and then moved onto a new one.”

Chantelle Howorth tweeted: “As if Michelle Keegan is filming in Bacup, love her.”

Chloe Jackson posted: “@michkeegan if you need a place to stay over night while filming in Bacup, give me a shout, I’ll be more than happy to put you up.”

Brassic is billed as a group of working-class friends finding ‘unconventional ways to win at life in northern suburbia.’

It is scheduled to air on Sky One next year.
