Rotarians have bid a fond farewell to a long-serving member who has emigrated to New Zealand.

Ian Hacking, from Great Harwood, has moved ‘Down Under’ with his wife Jennifer to be closer to their daughter and family who live in Auckland and another daughter who lives in Brisbane, Australia.

Ian, 69, joined the Rotary Club of Great Harwood and Rishton in 1999 and became President in 2005.

He previously joined the Church and Oswaldtwistle club at the age of 28 and also served as President in 1983.

He was also involved in many aspects of Rotary including serving on district positions and on the District Youth programme for 10 years.

Former Magistrate and school governor Ian also served on the Great Harwood branch of the RNLI for many years.

Michael Jackson, of Rotary International, said: “Hyndburn are certainly going to miss Ian and Jennifer who have been so influential in so many local affairs, and New Zealand should welcome with open arms a couple who have made such an impression over the years.

“We wish them well in their new country.”
