Two care home residents have celebrated their platinum wedding anniversary.
Margaret and Stanley Dawson, of Springhill Care Home in Accrington, received a message of congratulations from the Queen to mark 70 years of marriage.
The couple were surrounded by family and friends at a special party thrown in their honour and the commemorative card from Buckingham Palace offered them best wishes on their milestone.
Peggy, as she’s known around Springhill, married Stanley Dawson in Blackburn Register Office on March, 1945, during the final months of the Second World War.
The 88-year-old said: “It was totally unexpected to get a card from the Queen, a real surprise. It was a special day and great to see friends and family as well.”
The couple, formerly of Darwen, were also presented with a bouquet of flowers and a special cake as staff and friends looked on at the get-together.
