Accrington Golf Club is celebrating a hole in one after securing £75,000 of funding from Sport England.

The club, based on Devon Avenue in Oswaldtwistle, applied to the body for a share of National Lottery funding to refurbish its changing and community facilities.

In a statement to Sport England about the project, the club said: “There are problems with deprivation in the area and golf participation has been declining.

“The money will help the club to encourage more people to take part by refurbishing the function space and changing rooms so the club becomes a more appealing place to join.”

Club secretary Paul Wright said the funding would deal a massive boost to the club.

He added: “We’re hoping that the new facilities will attract in some new members as well as the visitors.

“The funding has come from their Inspired Facilities scheme and we will be using the money to do just that by improving the changing facilities, showers, the function room, etc. We’ve got a deadline to have the refurbishment works finished by the end of March set by Sport England.”
