Accrington Town Hall’s classic ballroom is set to be unveiled as a ‘Downton Abbey’ style venue for wedding receptions, proms and events after a £750,000 restoration.
The venue has already held its first two events even before its official launch - a private party and Accrington Pipe Band performance both took place just before Christmas.
And the ballroom will be further showcased in early March with a wedding fair featuring catwalk shows, hair and make-up demonstrations plus stands from the region’s leading suppliers.
Leisure bosses said the ballroom, which dates back to 1853, is now suitable for a host of occasions, from wedding receptions and school prom evenings to family parties, wakes, Christenings, dedications and live shows.
Kerry Smith, cultural services manager at Hyndburn Leisure, said: “The ballroom is the jewel in Accrington’s crown.
“It’s a spectacular setting for events and we’ve been keen to keep it as affordable as possible to hire so everyone in our town can make the most of it for their special occasions.
“You simply won’t find anything like it in the area - it has to be seen to be believed.”
The ballroom now has a capacity of 300, and 240 for a sit-down meal and features a fully sprung dancefloor - the only other of its kind in the North West is at the Tower Ballroom in Blackpool.
Two new bars have also been installed with one located behind the stage area and a mezzanine cocktail bar overlooking the main space.
Events lined up for the ballroom include dance nights, film clubs, princess parties and live shows - but Kerry says proms and weddings are set to form the majority of bookings at the venue.
Kerry added: “Wedding reception and prom enquiries have been flooding in before we’ve officially launched, so 2015 is set to be an incredible year for the ballroom.
“From the moment brides, grooms, prom kings and queens step onto our majestic staircase they’ll feel like they’re in their very own Downton Abbey.”
