Holocaust Memorial Day has been celebrated at a special Town Hall ceremony.

Residents and councillors joined with faith representatives to light candles in memory of the six million people who lost their lives during the Holocaust and the four million who have died in subsequent genocides.

A plaque was also installed in the Town Hall to raise awareness.

The theme this year was ‘Keep the memory alive’ and marks the 20th anniversary of the Holocaust and the 20th anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica, Bosnia.

Hyndburn Mayor Dad said: “Holocaust Memorial Day gives us the vital opportunity to reflect on these memories of genocide while the survivors are still with us in order to leave a legacy for future

generations and learn the lessons of their experiences.”
