A support group in Great Harwood has received grants totalling £550 from area councils in Hyndburn.

The Friends of Derian House group was set up in the town last year to raise funds for the children’s hospice.

It has now been backed with £300 of funding from the area council in Great Harwood, £200 from Peel and Barnfield area council and £50 from Baxenden area council.

Member Sandra Robinson thanked the area council for their contributions.

She said: “This money is most welcome and will be used to offset group expenses and costs, and for the construction and maintenance of a website to be launched very soon.

“Thanks also to Clayton-le-Moors Area Council and Nick Collingridge who have kindly offered the group use of the beautiful function room at Mercer House in Mercer Park.”

Derian House, based in Chorley, is renowned throughout the region as being at the forefront of children’s palliative and respite care.
