Beavers from Clayton-le-Moors enjoyed a weekend sleepover at a 17th century manor house.

Around 30 children of 1st All Saints Beavers visited Waddow Hall, near Clitheroe, for two nights.

Beaver group leaders said they had a ‘fantastic sleepover’ and took part in a number of exciting activities.

The children worked as teams during a scrap heap challenge to design a water filled rocket out of junk. The rockets were then launched by air pressure to see which one went the furthest. The children also had a go on the zip-line, climbing walls, grass sledging and tunnelling. And they went on a hike to Edisford Bridge Miniature Railway where they enjoyed a train ride and ice creams before returning to camp for trampolining and circus skills.

During the evening the children cooked sausages on kebab sticks and toasted marshmallows on the camp fire.

They also cooked their own popcorn and baked potatoes in the embers of the fire.

Claire Rothwell, Beaver scout leader, said: “For many of the children it was their first experience of a night away from home but everyone had so much fun.

“They all asked when they could have another sleepover.”
