FANCY footwork scooped Hyndburn Comets Majorettes a double award when they pitted their skills in two tough competitions.

Group members, who meet in Backhouse Street, Oswaldtwistle travelled to Liverpool for the contests which saw them fend off challenges from groups across the country.

Girls involved included members of the Tiny Troupe aged between seven and 10 and the Junior Troupe aged between 11 and 14.

The first contest, The Premiser Dance Association Competition saw girls from the Tinies take second place and girls from the Juniors come fourth while the Tinies' Rebecca Anderson, 11 and Jenny Walker, seven won best leader and best mascot respectively.

And the second competition, the Royal Onyx Majorettes Competition saw both troupes come second.

Janet Darwen, press secretary for the group said: "The girls have done very well and we were very proud of them. They all have very positive attitudes and they are all really mature, sensible girls.

"To get the awards the Tinies had to do a 12 minute presentation while the Juniors had to do one which lasted 15 minutes.

"As a result of their performance, the Tinies were promoted from the second division to the first and the juniors took on 11 other teams so they all did really well."
