A CLAYTON nursery has been severely damaged by fire overnight.

First Class Child Care, in Pick Up Street, Clayton-le-Moors has had to be closed for the foreseeable future after an electrical fault in the roof space sparked huge blaze.

Twenty-five fire-fighters from Hyndburn and Great Harwood Fire Stations tackled the blaze for more than six hours.

A special meeting is being held tonight (Wednesday, March 20) at All Saints Primary School, in Church Street, Clayton-le-Moors for parents and staff, to see if temporary nursery places can be found at the other First Class Child Care Nurseries in Hyndburn.

Andrew Clifford, Company Director of First Class Child Care said: "Obviously, fires like this are emotional but we will be doing everything we can to get through this, and repair the nursery. We currently have investigators at the site to see how quickly we can get things up and running.

"We hope the meeting tonight will help us to find temporary placements for our children, who we hope to keep things as normal as possible for."
