A Book of Condolence is open at Accrington Town Hall and at The Civic Arts Centre at Oswaldtwistle for MP Ken Hargreaves, who died recently.

Mr Hargreaves was known to many as ‘Mr Oswaldtwistle’ because of his devotion to his home town.  He was a local councillor from 1965 to 1984, serving as Mayor in 1979.

He was awarded the MBE in 2006 for services to the community, and was recently recognised by the Pope with a Knighthood of St Gregory.

Mr Hargreaves was also awarded the Freedom of the Borough in 2010.

Council leader Coun Miles Parkinson, said: “Books of Condolence are open at Accrington Town Hall and Oswaldtwistle Civic Arts Centre for people to pay their respects to Ken, whose loss is felt so keenly by the whole community.”
