A five-year-old boy is in hospital after he was hit by a car.

The youngster suffered a suspected fractured skull in the collision and was rushed to the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital for treatment.

Police however do not believe that his condition is life-threatening.

The collision happened on Brown Street in Accrington at 8pm last night – Saturday.

Lancashire Police have launched an urgent appeal for witnesses.

Police said the boy, who hasn't been named, was with three adults and a number of other children when the collision with the Vauxhall Vectra happened.

A police spokesman said: “No one else was injured in the collision and the road was closed for some time following the incident.

“We are keen to speak to anyone that may have witnessed the collision so that we can establish exactly how it came to occur.”
