Line dancers who bared all in a charity calendar have raised more than £5,000 for their cause.

The group who meet regularly at Accrington’s Poplar Club have already sold 1,500 copies of their publication in aid of the East Lancashire Hospice.

Each month of the 2013 calendar, which is like the one in film Calendar Girls, featured one of the 12 women posing naked with strategically placed props.

Sales and other donations have generated a whopping £5,623.40 for the charity.

Elizabeth Davies, who is known to the group as Dynamite Dot, said members were delighted their cheeky charity endeavour was so successful.

She said: “When you do something like this you never know how many will sell so we are pleased with the figure.

“It was the first time any of us have done anything like this.

“All of the ladies worked very hard to sell as many copies as they did. It was very much a group effort.”

The calendar was created to celebrate the club’s 18 years of line dancing in the town.

For their photos each model chose their own Western American line dancing themed props such as saddles, fans, pistols, flags and casino chips. Local photographer Janine Butterworth took the photos.

Sharon Crymble, fundraising manager at the Blackburn-based hospice, thanked the dancers for their efforts. She said: “We are thrilled with the amount raised by the ladies who had so much fun posing for the calendar to help raise funds for the hospice.”
