Firefighters put a fire out in the bathroom of an Accrington home. Crews from Hyndburn Fire Station were called out to York Street at 1.30am on Tuesday.

Crew manager Alex Fletcher said candles, which had been left on in the bathroom, caught the blinds and started the blaze.

He said: "A flame ended up setting fire to the plastic on the bath. The middle aged woman who lived there wasn't in the bath at the time but alerted us. We used two breathing apparatus to go in and extinguish the fire."

He added: "It's a classic case of candles being left unattended. You should always use a suitable container for candles and keep away from blinds. And of course, if you are going to leave the room, make sure you extinguish the candles."
