ANOTHER cannabis-growing operation was uncovered by police during a search of a house in Church.

Officers targeted the house in Elmfield Street following a routine inquiry, when a police officer identified cannabis growing in the property.

The back bedroom had been partitioned off and ultra-violet lighting had been set up over cannabis plants.

Officers also discovered a bin bag containing a large quantity of freshly-cut cannabis leaves ready for drying.

The occupant of the house, a man of 36, was arrested.

Inspector Julian Platt of Accrington Police said: "People who think they can cultivate or sell illegal drugs are now starting to realise that we are closing in on them."

"Our efforts to stop these offences are increasing and more drug dealers should expect us to call in on them."

Sergeant Claire Holbrook added: "The tide is turning. The public are gaining more confidence in us as we bring more of these people to justice."

"Members of the public trust us to deal with their information in confidence. The more drug dealers we close down the more the trust of the public in us will grow."

"We want drug dealers to realise that Accrington is no easy touch, they are not welcome."
