The Accrington Carnival organising committee is urging local businesses to get behind the event and help make it a success.
The committee is marking the 50th anniversary of the event by attempting to track down all 25 former Carnival Queens to take part in the parade this year.
The bi-annual Accrington Lions carnival, which is taking place on June 13 at King George’s playing fields, will be celebrating its 50th year in 2015.
Chairperson of the event Caz Moreton, has sent letters out to businesses in the area encouraging them to get involved and support the event.
In the letter she said: “We have already overcome huge obstacles to get this event off the ground, with health and safety issues, delays finding a suitable venue, and road closures for the parade, and although the venue is large enough we cannot charge entry fees as the field is not fenced in.
“So as a charity club who donate every penny, we are hoping that the local businesses can step in and help with the huge cost of putting this event together.”
Caz said businesses can make a donation however small, sponsor one of the events on the day, or become a main sponsor for the whole event.
The search for Accrington’s next carnival queen is also well under way.
Application forms and criteria can be downloaded from accringtoncarnival.co.uk.
Completed forms should be taken to Trevor Adams Studio, Warner Street to arrange a photograph for publicity.
The closing date for Carnival Queen applications is Saturday, April 25.
