POLICE are appealing for help following a spate of attacks on cars by vandals.

Over the last week wreckers have used keys to scratch paint off several vehicles in the Laneside area of Accrington and in one incident an entire can of paint was poured over a woman's car.

Most of the attacks have occurred on Hay-wood Road and Ribble-sdale Avenue.

Police in the area are asking residents to help them tackle the problem by reporting any incidents of vandalism or suspicious activity.

PC Lisa Evans said: "We believe local youths are responsible for the problem and someone in the area may know who they are. The more people that ring in to help, the more we will be able to combat the problem."

She said the public had been vital in tackling the vandalism at Dill Hall Lane Cemetery earlier this year as they called in to report cases.

PC Evans added: "We are hoping the public will be able to help us like they did with the cemetery vandalism."

Currently the team is doing a mail-drop with information about the attacks and is considering installing CCTV cameras in the area should the vandalism continue.

Police have also incre-ased patrols in the area.

PC Evans added: "We are hoping by making people more aware of the incidents it may deter the vandals from doing anything else.

"We want to encourage residents to ring in if they have any information."
