A COFFEE shop worker has been selected to stand as the Labour Party’s candidate for the Baxenden ward in next year’s borough council elections.

David Hartley, 21, has been a member of the Labour Party since he was 18 and has been selected to run in the Conservative-held ward for the fourth time.

David, of Chatterton Drive, Baxenden, who currently works at Costa Coffee, said that it was an ‘honour’ to be standing again and said it was important for young people to take an interest in politics.

The aspiring paramedic said: “Politics is everywhere, whether it is tuition fees or the cost of living, it is all around us and it is important to engage in it.”

David has fought several campaigns in Baxenden in recent year.
