A seasoned triathlete is representing his country in a world competition.

Ian Greenwood is due to compete for Great Britain in the 50 to 54 age range team at the ETU World Triathlon Competition, in Kitzbuhel, Austria, next week.

Ian, from Accrington, also represented England in the World Masters Mountain Running Championships, in Italy, in 2007.

His switch from fell running to triathlon happened in 2011 when he was looking for a new challenge.

Ian quickly excelled in the sport and is now set to join an elite group of athletes who have achieved international distinction in two separate sports.

A former member of Clayton-le-Moors Harriers, Ian represented that team in road, fell and cross country running events and was very successful both individually and as part of team events.

He represented England twice at International mountain running in competitions in Switzerland and Italy.

And since switching to Triathlon in 2011, he has been a member of the Rossendale Triathlon Club and competed around the country.

He is being sponsored for this latest event by his employer Paradigm Precision Engineering, Austrian bed and breakfast business DORF22, and Rossendale Triathlon club.

Brother Graham Greenwood said he is very proud of Ian.

He said: “Not many people have represented their country at international level, but Ian has done this twice in two different sports.

“He is now set to join an elite group of athletes who have achieved international distinction in two separate sports.”
