A DENTAL surgery is set to launch a cosmetic clinic offering treatment to smooth out wrinkles and frown lines.

Botulinum toxin therapy for wrinkle correction will be offered at the Abbey Street Dental Surgery in Accrington from the end of the month.

The injections contain a purified protein which reduces the activity of the muscles that cause frown lines between the brows.

It is a first for the borough with patients currently having to travel out of town for the treatment.

Dr Louise Banner, 33, has worked at the Abbey Street dentists since 2000 and she believes the new clinic will be a huge hit.

She has also applied for planning permission to see if there is an opportunity to expand the service.

A treatment can cost anything from £180 to about £350 depending on each individual.

Dr Banner, who is studying for a diploma in restorative dentistry, said: "The service will be incorporated within the dental surgery.

"I have had a lot of patients inquiring about whether or not I could introduce a facial rejuvenation clinic.

"There are plenty of people looking for this kind of treatment - now they can have it on their own doorstep. It's more accessible."

Dr Banner already has three people registered to be her first customers for the 20- minute procedure.

Each patient will receive a full consultation before injections into problem areas such as the forehead and around the eyes.

The procedure is painless and Dr Banner, who has had a treatment herself during training, said it is surprising how straightforward the process is.
