HYNDBURN Council's Chief Executive Mike Chambers is on the move.

He will be taking up the job of Deputy Chief Executive with Oldham Metropolitan Council during the summer.

He was selected from a shortlist that included a candidate flown in from Melbourne, Australia, a private sector managing director and candidates from leading UK councils.

Mr Chambers, 46, who has held Hyndburn Council's top job for eight years, said: "Right now the prospects for Hyndburn are excellent. The council has a skilled and committed workforce led by an outstanding management team.

"But I am excited at the prospect of stepping up to a larger-scale organisation with the additional challenges of being responsible for education and social services."
