HUSBAND-and-wife team Doug and Sandra Hayes have been appointed as Crime and Disorder Czars for Hyndburn in a bid to combat anti-social behaviour.
The two councillors will take up the roles of chairman and vice-chairman of the newly-formed Overview and Scrutiny Committee for Community Safety and Community Well-being.
The pair, who between them have served on the council for more than 30 years, will have responsibility for monitoring the work of the Community Safety Partnership.
Their roles will include monitoring the objectives and actions set out in the community strategy, promoting community safety delivery across council services and making recommendations for innovative actions to tackle burglary, violent crime and anti-social behaviour across the borough.
Council leader Peter Britcliffe said: "During the election campaign I was constantly asked about anti-social behaviour and crime and disorder in the borough."
"Community safety is at the forefront of people's minds in Hyndburn and that is why we've made it a council priority and created the roles of these crime and disorder supremos."
"As chair and vice-chair Doug and Sandra will be able to bring their skills and years of experience to these vital roles."
Councillor Sandra Hayes said she was looking forward to getting to work on the committee.
Her husband added: "This is an exciting role."
"We all want a safer Hyndburn and the creation of these roles is a key move towards this."
"We will very much be working in partnership to tackle anti-social behaviour across the borough and to monitor projects relating to the health and well-being of Hyndburn residents."
