A husband and wife have been forced to move business and could relocate their home after a car careered into their shop.

The structure of Oswaldtwistle’s Equine Direct moved more than two inches after a woman in her early 20s lost control of a blue Peugeot 106 before careering into the shop’s main pillar.

The car had bounced off a parked Vauxhall Corsa and became wedged between a postbox and the shop front.

Neil and Pam Floyd, who own the shop and live in the flat above, have now moved the company to Oswaldtwistle Mills because of a loss of earnings.

They have been on Union Road for the last five years.

Pam said they and their three German Shepherd dogs will probably have to move house for at least two months as building work progresses.

“It’s been a bit of a nightmare,” said Pam.

“And it is going on and on. We are glad the girl who crashed the car is alright but we have lost money and continue to. Customers are confused and we may even have to move us and the dogs out for a couple of months.

“It won’t be easy finding a temporary home for three dogs and us.”

Following the smash last month council building inspectors deemed the shop unsafe.

The female driver of the car, from Accrington, was declared unharmed and police said she hadn't committed any offence.

Pam estimates there has been £30,000 worth of damage to the building.

She added: “Luckily insurance has covered it.

“We are trading in the new premises but there has been a lot of upheaval and stress.

“Takings are way down. It’s going to take about three months to sort the building work out.

“Hopefully then we can trade and live from there.”
