FIREFIGHTERS were called out when yobs set fire to the scoreboard hut at Immanuel Cricket Club, Oswaldtwistle.

Officers arrived at around 9pm on Tuesday and managed to tackle the flames before any serious damage was done. Three youths were seen running from the scene and the incident is now being investigated by police.

Club Captain Gerrard Metcalf said: “They managed to get into the scorebox by an access flap and they then set fire to a chair inside it. The chair was destroyed and so was the radio, but the damage was not that serious.

“Luckily, the club is surrounded by houses and we don’t have that many problems with vandalism. In this case, someone saw the smoke and acted very quickly.”
