A CAT stuck seven metres up a telegraph pole was saved by firefighters on Tuesday.

The white kitty had made its way up the pole and drew a crowd of people fearing that it may be about to lose one of its nine lives.

Crews were called to the pole, near to a back alley off Whalley Road, Clayton-le-Moors, at around 11am.

Crew manager Neil Cooper said: "The cat had been up there for three or four hours and couldn’t get down. It had already fallen about half way and we were called out before the RSPCA arrived.

"We put a ladder up to it and it made its own way down. It would normally be an RSPCA callout and we are not allowed to go up the ladder for health and safety reasons when rescuing animals. The cat didn’t appear to be injured." The owner is believed to live on Whalley Road.
