A FRAIL man of 87 suffered a broken leg when he was pushed to the ground by two men who forced their way into his home in Cobham Road, Accrington, on Wednesday afternoon.
The raiders attacked the widower in the hallway before fleeing with just £30 in coins from an upstairs safe.
The victim's shocked ex-son-in-law said: "He has served the community in his time. You couldn't meet a nicer bloke."
DC Geoff Bromley said: "These are dangerous people and need to be caught."
Police are keen to trace a blue Vauxhall seen in the area shortly after the incident at 2.15pm and would like to hear from any shopkeepers who have been asked to change a large amount of coins. The attackers have been described as white, in their early 20s with local accents.
