DARING Darren Scammell has found a hole new way to raise cash for charity… by having his privates pierced.

The taxi driver threw caution to the wind when he put the most delicate part of his anatomy under the needle in a bold bid to raise hundreds of pounds for Mencap.

Father-of-three Darren, of Norfolk Grove, Church, had always wanted to do something to support the mental health charity.
So when his mates dared him to make the ultimate sacrifice, he couldn't resist.

So on Saturday he paid a visit to Studio One in Warner Street, Accrington, and had a ring inserted in his manhood.

The 37-year-old, who lives with his wife Kerry, 28, and children Kurt, 10, Ebony, six, and Eden, two, said: "I was really nervous before I went in but the actual process of having the ring put in didn't hurt at all. The studio even agreed to do it for free, so I've raised about £500, which is great." But the couple were not quite so happy to find they faced a nookie ban for eight weeks.

Darren added: "We were a bit taken aback by that, but at least it's all for a good cause."

Long-suffering Kerry said: "I suppose I'll manage. I don't know where he got the idea. He just came home with it one day and once he's got something in his head you can't talk him out of it. He's always been a bit crazy. He's talking of having a body wax next.''

Mrs Margaret McGuinness, who did the deed, has been involved with body piercing for 15 years. She said: "It is usually footballers and celebrities that go in for things like this.''

A spokeswoman for Mencap said: "We are extremely grateful for any contributions, no matter how innovative, as long as all necessary health and safety measures are taken."
