Final preparations are underway for the Fusion Festival this weekend.
Friends of Rhyddings Park have organised the event in Oswaldtwistle as a fundraiser for the 2016 Oswaldtwistle Carnival.
Around ten local bands will be entertaining crowds on Sunday, July 5 for an afternoon of music, food and fun, and activities on offer include fairground rides and a chocolate tombola with £500 worth of chocolate, which was generously donated by Spar on Thwaites Road.
Oswaldtwistle Carnival was resurrected in 2014 after a 16-year absence and the plan is to hold one every two years, the next one being in June 2016.
The fusion festival has been jointly organised by the 2016 carnival committee and the Friends of Rhyddings Park.
Gayle Knight, from the Civic Arts Centre, who is part of the team organising the carnival, said: “We’ve got all sorts of fairground rides, archery, local stalls and live bands from 12noon tp 5pm, we’ve got a sports competition starting at 1.30pm and we’re asking for teams of six to eight to enter that as well.
“We’re hoping that the weather will be on our side and people will come along if it’s a good day.”
Gayle said the committee behind the carnival is hoping to raise as much as possible towards next year’s event.
She said: “We’re hoping to raise around £1,000 if we can.
“The best organisation in the world makes no difference if the weather isn’t good, people just don’t want to come out.”
The committee behind the Oswaldtwistle Carnival has already set a date for next year’s event.
Gayle said: “The 2016 carnival will be held on Sunday, June 19 in 2016.
“We’ve got a little bit of money in the bank, we had some donated from the West End play area and we did some fundraising earlier this year so we’ve got just under £2,000 at the moment.
“People don’t realise the expenses involved, from the road closures to the insurance, the stages, the cost really mounts up.
“The Fusion festival is a lot smaller scale compared to the carnival. But there will be lots of things going on throughout the day at the festival in Rhyddings Park.”
