Motorists faced delays this morning after one car ended on its side following a two-vehicle collision in Church.

The 33-year-old male driver of a Peugeot 306 had to be free from his car by firefighters after it flipped on its side on Market Street at 7.25am on Thursday.

He was taken to hospital for precautionary check-ups but was soon discharged.

The 52-year-old female driver of a Fiat Punto, also involved in the collision, wasn't injured.

A police spokesman said officers created a filtering for system for traffic during rush hour.

He said: "Luckily there were no injuries. The two cars collided with each other and we are looking into how it happened. Market Street was closed for an hour and part of Blackburn Road. The top of Henry Street was too. An hour later traffic was back to normal."

Hyndburn firefighters attended the scene and managed to free the trapped man via the back door of his car.
