A pre-school has been labelled as good following an Ofsted inspection.

Clayton-le-Moors Pre-School jumped up a grade from satisfactory after inspectors visited in December.

Manager Samantha Kissock was delighted by the result.

The mum-of-three said: “We are very pleased. We have all worked together for this, the staff and the pupils. It is nice to be recognised by Ofsted in this way.”

Ofsted said staff showed good leadership and effective teamwork, communicated well with the children, developed good relationships with them and observed and recorded their progress well.

Samantha, whose three children have all attended the pre-school on Pickup Street, said Ofsted inspected their Civic Hall premises a year early because she took over the management reins in September last year.

She added: “They only came in because I had taken over as manager recently after working here for nine years. So it is good timing really. I am delighted at the inspection result and so are all our staff. The pupils here are great.

“We have a nice mix of boys and girls, aged between two and four – they are real characters. We want to keep going and push for further improvement until the next inspection in a few years.”

Ofsted inspectors also said children had been provided with good learning opportunities at the pre-school.

Clayton-le-Moors Pre-School opened in 1992 and currently caters for 22 children. During the last Ofsted inspection in 2010 the school was given a satisfactory grade.
