A DIAMOND couple have celebrated 60 years of marriage with their 28 children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. John and Marian Molineux, of Park Lane, Great Harwood tied the knot in 1955 after a chance meeting at a cinema in Blackburn.
Marian, 77, said: “I was in the cinema with my friends Mavis and Agnes and John and his friends got talking to us as boys like to do and this particular boy walked me home.
“We arranged to meet up a few more times and things went from there.”
The couple married two years later in a registry office in Blackburn and enjoyed coffee and fruitcake with friends and family.
Marian, a mum-of-four, grandmother of 12 and great-grandmother of 12 added: “We celebrated the anniversary with a trip to Whitby with our family, which was absolutely lovely. We also received a message from the Queen congratulating us.”
John, 79, who is a retired plumber said: “I saw Marian at the cinema and thought she was a bit of alright! All these years later we’re still together and I have enjoyed every moment. I think the key to a long marriage is to trust each other and look after each other.”
