FLOWERS have been placed on the doorstep of a 22-year-old woman who was found hanged.

The poignant tributes and sympathy cards have been left by friends of Cherisse Newton, who was found dead at her home in Harvey Street, Oswaldtwistle, on Saturday afternoon.

One friend said: "Cherisse was a nice person. She was friendly and very helpful and she would do anything for anybody. She was full of fun."

A police spokesman said: "An ambulance was called out when the body was found but she was already dead when it got there. The friend who found her was obviously very distressed by the situation."

An inquest was due to open yesterday afternoon (Thursday).

The funeral directors handling the arrangements said Cherisse's family did not want to speak to the press.
