Drivers in Huncoat have been asked to stop parking at a busy junction. Cars are regularly left at the junction of Higher Gate and Burnley Road.

Ward councillor Nick Whittaker said parking cars at the junction is an accident waiting to happen.

Coun Whittaker said: “When cars park up at the junction it can be very difficult for other drivers to see.  They are parking on the pavement which isn’t safe, especially with the two bus stops nearby.”

He added: “They are parking right in front of bus stops so  you may have a situation  where children leave the bus and cannot be seen because of cars blocking the road.

“It seems to be people who are commuting and leaving their cars there during the day. I have no problems with car sharing but cars should not be parked at this junction.”

He added it is nearly impossible for two buses to drive on opposite sides of the road when the cars are left at the junction.

Highways chiefs at Lancashire County Council are considering putting a double yellow line at the junction, but Coun Whittaker is asking for drivers to park at an alternative spot.

He added: “Unless I put a note on the cars asking people not to park there, nothing is going to be done so I would ask drivers to stop parking at the junction.”
