FACTORY worker Mohammed Riaz claimed that he felt isolated in the local community and had always planned to return to his native Pakistan one day.

Brother-in-law Barry Khanan said that the 49-year-old had always been a very quiet person who was very much into the Asian culture.

It became apparent soon into the marriage that he was against the idea of his wife Caneze going out to work and tried to convince her to stay at home and be a housewife.

Caneze began working at Hyndburn Park Primary School but Mohammed was unhappy.

Barry said: "He was always sulking. He would tell me that he didn't like Caneze working because she didn't need to. He earned enough for them at a Blackburn plastic bag factory.

"He said he felt isolated and wanted to move to Birmingham but that's why Caneze wanted him to go to college and integrate."

Caneze would always confide in her brother and tell him that she was fed up with Mohammed complaining about her going to work. She would say that if she didn't go to work then they couldn't buy things for the children.

Barry added: "She wanted to do it for the family but he wouldn't go along with her. He was never violent to any of them, just a tight-fisted sulker.

"When Adam became ill, he changed and became self-absorbed, it was always me, me, me. If you came across him in the street you would think he was a nice guy who would help anyone but he was more interested in sending money over to his family in Pakistan."

Mohammed had always hoped that the girls would get engaged in Pakistan but Caneze said although she agreed the girls should marry a Muslim, it would be in this country and to men of their own choices.

Barry said that Caneze always told Mohammed straight and gave him an ultimatum that he could either help and support her or the marriage would fall apart.

The couple became more and more distant and Mohammed showed less interest in his family.

Barry added: "He was a very jealous and controlling person, he wanted everything his own way. I don't think he realised that there was more to life than him.

"When Adam starting responding to his treatment, his dad showed little interest. Caneze was holding the family together. She wasn't showing her husband any interest and he was feeling left out, he was a childish coward."
